Year 1
Teachers: Mrs S. Gibson and Mrs J. Thrush
Support Staff: Mrs Connolly, Mrs Gaskin and Mrs Linskey
Year One is a wonderful year of learning! Throughout the year we focus on independent sentence writing and progress to forming short narratives. We explore a range of beautifully illustrated stories to inspire our writing. We study colour, paper sculpture and weaving in art and have great fun investigating animals, living things and different materials in science.
We continue to use Read Write Inc to teach phonics and early reading. Children are encouraged to read their reading book, RWI book and class library choice each week, changing their book once they have managed a speedy read!
In maths, we learn numbers to 100 including addition and subtraction, plus money, shape and time.
For homework, children are encouraged to read daily at home. Maths homework is set on Doodle and children are encouraged to access Numbots from home. For our English homework, we ask that children practice their individual sound/red word cards daily at home.
