Intent
At Cecil Road Primary and Nursery school, our Art Curriculum provides all children with the skills, concepts and knowledge to be successful in drawing, painting, sculpture and design techniques. It enables children to appreciate and interpret what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern and processes. Artwork is purposeful, either as a means of expression or to explore the diverse styles of other artists and art periods.
Implementation
At Cecil Road Primary and Nursery School our ambitious curriculum is supported by Kapow. This resource ensures full coverage of the National Curriculum objectives and more.
Units of lessons are sequential, allowing children to build their skills and knowledge applying them to a range of outcomes. Key skills are revisited again and again with increasing complexity in a spiral curriculum model. This allows pupils to revise and build on their previous learning. Units in each year groups are organised in four core areas:
- Drawing
- Painting and mixed-media
- Sculpture and 3D
- Craft and design
Lessons are practical and encourage experimental and exploratory learning with pupils using sketch books to document their ideas. Lessons are adapted to allow all children to access the learning and opportunities are given to stretch children’s learning.
Impact
Our art curriculum will engage, inspire and challenge our children. They will experiment, invent and create art, craft and design. They will learn that to be a successful artist, they are to be reflective, resilient and critical of their own and others’ work and explore a range of processes and styles.
